Shut-off valves

With a shut-off valve, you can control and regulate or shut off the flow of a liquid or gas in a simple way. Explore our different shut-off valves on this page.

Shut-off valve: control and shut-off

Boats ball valves and butterfly valves belong to the type of shut-off valves that control and adjust the flow in pipework systems. You'll find them in water and wastewater systems, offshore, pharmaceutical, food, agricultural and fishing industries, among others.

Butterfly valves are usually made of either metal or plastic such as polypropylene, cast iron, stainless steel and bronze for marine applications. The design itself consists of a valve body and a disc, usually located in the centre of the body with an embedded spindle. A seal, also called a liner, is inserted between the valve body and disc, which can be made of an elastomer material such as NBR, EPDM, FKM or silicone.

To stop the flow, a lever is set for manual operation. Turning the valve a quarter turn switches it from open to closed position or vice versa. In addition, the handle can also be pneumatically or electrically controlled if you want automatic operation.

With a butterfly valve, you can block or allow flow in a quick way. This is especially useful if you want to be able to shut off pipework with fluids that have moderate pressures and temperatures - up to 16 bar and 120°C. Another clear advantage is the simple design and low weight. Compared to valves such as ball valves and hose valves, the price is often lower too.

Ball valves are made of stainless steel, acid-proof steel or plastic and are available as manual, electric, automatic or pneumatic ball valves. Ball valves are available as both 2-way valves and 3-way valves.

A ball valve, also known as a ball cock, is one of the most commonly used valves. The advantage of a ball valve is that it can shut off most media under both vacuum and pressure. Unlike solenoid valves, which are not tight when they come into contact with chemical liquids and gases or if there is a difference in pressure, a ball valve can help get the job done - thanks to its simple and solid construction.

The ball valve is made up of a valve body with hydraulic connections and seals. It helps seal the flow of liquids and gases with a ball that has a pierced hole. The small ball can have either two or three holes, so you can choose how you want the flow to be. This gives the ball valve an optimal and efficient way to regulate the flow, as it can decide which liquids and gases should not be in the flow.

Thanks to the small ball in the valve, it can precisely regulate, open or close the flow of various media. Other shut-off valves may not offer the same sealing as our ball valve, which is why an Alflow ball valve may be the right choice if you want the best result. As mentioned, you can use a ball valve under vacuum and pressure. This means that if you work with chemically aggressive media, our ball valves in good materials are ideal for use in large and small installations.
